For those that enjoy solitare card games, here is a link to a newer
version of Pysol that runs on MS Windows machines. The link is:

http://pygames.sourceforge.net/

It looks as if someone has forked the code so that it will run better on
Windows and has added an installer.

There is also a link to a more recent version pysol for use on Windows
machines. You will need to install python on your machine to be able to
run the software, so it is not a small download.

Best thing is they re-incorporated Mahjongg type games. It's a
keeper...despite the large download.

Didn't they promise that one time, there will be a new compiled version
of Pysol for Windows, when version 5.x is out? It seems that version is
still a long way from completion.

Ah, I see you are talking about a variant. I first had believed you
meant something that might be a mirror of

http://www.oberhumer.com/opensource/pysol/

Which seems to have been like this for more than a year.

I may not have made it clear. At

http://www.oberhumer.com/opensource/pysol/

the most recent version of Pysol is 4.8.2 but there are no versions that
are easily used on MS Windows systems.

At http://pygames.sourceforge.net/ there are links to two versions of
Pysol. One is version 4.81 (a lite and non-lite version), and the other is
to version 0.10 of Pysolitaire.

It sounds as if Pysolitaire has been forked from the original Pysol. I am
notgoing to argue the merits of this, but just wanted to bring it to the
groups attention. It seems as if there is a steady request for games.

I've posted Pysol 4.40 (3.66mb) to alt.binaries.freeware. No separate
Python install required.

Does that version do the Mahjongg type games?

Doubt that I can help, but I installed ActivePython first and then
installed Pysolitaire. This is on a Windows 2000 system. It seems to be
running allright so far.

I have Win98SE and I already have Python 2.2.3 on my system, which
didn't want to install Active Python terribly well. I will try again
next week and see if I can't talk this baby into installing the
programs. LOL

Was there a problem with the old version on Windows? I used to play it
regularly about a year back on Windows 98SE without any problems.

None that I ever run into. I know that there have been several updates.

The one thing I would like to figure out is how the version 4.60 of Pysol
was made. It is a MS Windows executable that does not require a separate
Python installation.

I get a message saying it's not a valid Win32 application when I double
click the download file.

Any idea what the difference is gamewise between 4.81 and 0.10?

Frank ....

There are distribution utilities available for Python
that compile the Python interpreter/run-time files
into an executable ....

http://starship.python.net/crew/theller/py2exe/

The drawback is if you have 42 applications
compiled this way, you have 42 embedded Python interpreters ....

that are easily used on MS Windows systems.

Sorry no. I have not had the time to do any looking around at the
Pysolitaire web site.

Questions: With 4.60 I get weird interference with the sound files.
I've downloaded 4.81 ... will the sounds work better? will the proggie know
where Python is?
