Running XP Pro..
Any way to assign a password to a file before it opens...
Looking to take documents (*.doc, *.xls) from a PW protected zip file and
just have the sit on the network with each having their own PW...

TIA.

No - that would be set in each file/document. Why not use NTFS security to
control who has access to what?

Generally you control access to files/folders by assigning NTFS permissions
that only include the users/group that should have access. If the user does
not have any permissions he can not access the file over the network. You
can password protect some Office files as shown in the link below though
keep in mind there are widely available utilities that can crack such
passwords which a user could do at his leisure once he copied the file to
his computer which he could do if he had at least read access to the folder.
Also password protecting a file does not prevent any user from deleting the
file if he has modify permissions to the folder. --- Steve
