Here is a puzzling network issue. Perhaps someone can help?

I have set up a home network consisting of:

a Win ME machine connected to the internet through a cable
modem and running internet sharing.
The ME PC is connected to a hub, which in turn is
connected to a wireless hub. The whole network is set up
for DHCP with the ME as the DHCP SErver.
I have 2 XP machines with wireless network cards - no
problems, everything works fine.
I also have a Win2000 laptop with a wireless card, and
here is where the problem starts.

1) The Laptop does not work in DHCP mode. It uses a
Linksys card and software, but it will not get an IP
address from the server. So I have to set the IP address
manually. This works fine, I have access to the internal
network through the wireless router. If anybody knows any
tricks for DHCP, I am all ears.
2) I do NOT have access to the internet after booting.
Here is the puzzling part:

I boot the machine and wait until everything is up. No
Internet connection. I then go to the advanced TCP/IP
settings and check the "Append parent suffixes of the
primary DNS suffix box". Close the dialogs and I have the
internet. Next time I boot, I again have NO internet. I go
to the Advanced TCP/IP settings, and the box is checked. I
UNCHECK the box, close the dialogs, and now I have the
internet. Why is that?

See previous post... but WXP handles Wireless a bit better then W2K, so that
honestly might be the root issue. Are you making sure you wireless link is
good first?

Anyone else have any other ideas?

oops, may have sent a reply before I was done.

Thanks for your help, Brian.

As I am setting up a "home network" I don't really have a
suffix. How is that resolved? Should I use the suffix of
the ISP?

Since you are behind a router, the connection will appear as if it is coming
from your router not your client, so a suffix in all honesty is moot,
mute... eerr not needed. :)

Just make sure you are pointed to valid external dns servers (isp) and you
should have decent dns resolution.
