My question is- I have 2 computers. I want to put XP on my old one cause it has no operating system (have not used in years). Can I use the copy I Purchased for my newer computer on my old one also???

if the hardware supports running XP then technically you can, however you
will be in violation of license agreement, because one copy of XP may
legally only be installed and used on one machine and not two. (Like reading
a book, if one is reading it, the other one can't)

No.
One license, one computer the way it has always been for consumer
Microsoft operating systems since at least Windows 95.
If you want Windows XP on the second computer, buy another copy.

Also make sure the older computer can support Windows XP:

Greetings --

You'll need to purchase a separate WinXP license for each computer
on which you install it.

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems,
it's necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and U.S.
copyright law http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/17/117.html), if not
technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on which
it is installed. (Consult an attorney versed in copyright law to
determine final applicability in your locale.) The only way in which
WinXP licensing differs from that of earlier versions of Windows is
that Microsoft has finally added a copy protection and anti-theft
mechanism, Product Activation, to prevent (or at least make more
difficult) multiple installations using a single license.

You can buy additional licenses, assuming you have a retail
license. Naturally, Microsoft cannot sell additional OEM licenses. Be
aware, however, that you'll probably pay more this way than you would
if you were to buy a second copy of WinXP from a discount retailer;
Microsoft will only offer you a 15% discount off their MSRP.

So when I sit next to my wife who is holding a book and we both read it at
the same time, we are doing something illegal, are we? This is a very bad
analogy!

If the same EULA that exists for the OS were applicable to that book, I
guess you would be
besides, IIRC it's an analogy MS itself on occasion has been using for a
long time.

In a word, "NO". You must purchase a seperate licence for the other
computer.

Not quite the same.
That is like sitting next to your wife at the computer, of course both
can use it.
However generally you can not copy the book and each read a copy in
separate rooms.
