I am using Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and I have over 1,800 pictures I
need to add text too. The text will all have the same wording. How to I add
text and how to I add text to all of them at the same time without going into
each picture? Thanks

First, I will say that if your system chokes up
on 1,800 images at once...you may have to
do the project in smaller batches.

It can be done with the following free program:

FastStone Image Viewer
http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

===

"Basic steps to add text to a batch of image
files using Fast Stone Image Viewer"

Tools / Batch Convert / Batch Convert tab...

Check the box...Use advanced options...

Advanced Options button / Text tab /
Check the box...Use Text...

Enter your text in the text field...

Click the Font button and choose
a font and size.

Click...Position...and choose the position
of the text.

Click...OK...

Add the files you wish to append by
browsing to them and selecting them
in the right pane and then click the Add
button to move them to the Input List.

Choose an Output Format...

Choose an Output folder...

Click the Start button...

You cannot do this with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.
You need photo editing software.
You can get Microsoft Digital Image Suite Anniversary edition to do this.
This product is now discontinued but look around at places like Staples and
you probably can get it for less than $50.00 and with rebates.
If you can't get this, get Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0. Look around and you
can get it for around $50.00.
Using the above, you open a photo and add the text you want.
Since you want the same text for all photos, you Copy the text added to your
first photo to your clipboard (select the text, hold the Ctrl key down and
press the letter C) and then you open the next photo and you paste the same
text in (hold the Ctrl key down and press the letter V) to add the same text
to this photo.
You cannot add text to photos without opening them one by one.

You can also use the free software:
www.irfanview.com
or
www.fastone.com
to add text to a photo but they are cumbersome and will not let you copy and
paste the text to use it on the next photo you open.

Tried Faststone once to add text and did not like it, but if you can indeed
batch the same text in many photo files than this would be the way to go.

Hi Yves,

As you can see in my instructions, you
have to go through a lengthy setup but
FastStone will add text to a batch.

IrfanView has similar capabilities but
IMHO is even harder to understand.

Since Digital Image will not do a batch...
it would take forever to open 1800 images
in the program in smaller batches and
paste text one at a time.

Cheers,

I agree it is buried.
I tried it just for fun.
I would suggest that this person uses 3 or 4 files in batch mode to see if
this is satisfactory with font size and placement and use Image### for file
name on this so as to not mess the original. This would not be my first
choice, but if you have 1800 files it certainly becomes attractive to batch
the process.

Yes, a test run would be an excellent idea.
