I bought my PC from a small reseller. It came with OEM
WIndows XP
After a while I found out that they had installed a
pirated version of Windows XP.
Now I bought a full version of Windows XP, with the
Product Keym license etc.
But I have got no idea how to put the new product key.

I would like to avoid to format the harddisk etc, as many
programs are installed.

Can anybody help me?

You cannot simply change the Product Key. Using your
legitimate Windows XP CD and Product Key, you'll need
to perform a "repair install".

No, it is not possible. Pirated versions of Windows XP use a
volume license CD and Product Key. A "retail" or "OEM"
Product Key will not work with a volume license version of
Windows XP.

Have you reported them to Microsoft? Don't let these people get away with
it. They have ripped you off and left you out of pocket.

Greetings --

You need to use your legitimate full retail copy of WinXP Pro to
perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place upgrade) installation, using the new
CD and Product Key.

Remember, you should also report whomever sold you the pirated
software to your local law enforcement agency.
