I'm going to be putting in another (2nd) hard drive and want to know the
easiest way to go about this. I'd like to put all my files on the 2nd drive
and only have windows and my programs on the main drive - is that the best
way to go about it? I'm going to have someone else install it - but after
that....what's the best way to go?

thanks
Pam

That's a pretty good way to do it, for it offers the following advantages:

1. The first drive, because it holds only the operating system and your
applications, only has to be backed up whenever changes
(additions/deletions/changes) are made to it. Thus, it probably won't
need to be backed up very often. Also, it shouldn't have to be defragged
very often.

2. The second drive, because it holds all your data (and only your
data), can be backed up quite readily - just back up the entire drive,
not worrying about which folders/files need to be backed up. Also, this
drive should be defragged more frequently because its data is changed
more often.

Just a word of advice. Some programs default to the program folder or their own directories to save data and settings. Others default to various folders in Documents and Settings. You'll either need to change the defaults or remember to include these in your data backups.
