all defaults set for WIndows Mail.
Any help would be apprecited

Try right clicking on the file and dragging it to the message and dropping
it. See if it will attach then.

Yes that works fine but it mean having to find the file then drag - bit
archaic after WIndows Express

It helps diagnose where the problem is occuring. Check for what other
programs might be running. It sounds as if the problem is in browsing to
the attachment or loading up the browse window, rather than the attaching
process itself.

Does Insert | Text from File crash ?

Yes shuts down just like Attach -note also have simlar problem with WMP when
I click on Open and IE7 when I try to save a download rather than open so
maybe it is a browsing type problem

After your mention of the word "browsing" a liitle light bulb went on & I
have just solved all these problems by the following action in IE7:

In IE7/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced (at the bottom clicked on Reset) &
reset all the settings - restarted IE7.

Now Windows mail "Attach" works fine

WMP Open File works fine

IE7 Downloading a File/Save

Obviously the "browsing" technique as it is in XP is also in Vista and thus
it is essentilal that IE operates correctly to enable other Programs
functionality to operate.

A good result and thank you for the tipoff.
