Putting a program on StartUp with XP Pro SR2+++

Because I have XP Pro, I have nothing on StartUp, but being a blind user, I'd like to start a large program, which is ZoomText, so I can find my way around more easily. How do I put it on my StartUp? Its v. 8.1 and 4KB in size.

I use OneCare, Windows Firewall, and Auto downloads with notification (so I don't get loaded with updates I don't need/use).
Thank you.

Hi Pappion.
Open windows Explorer and locate this path:
C:\Documents and settings\User\ Start Menu \Programs\StartUp
Copy the program shortcut and paste it in the startup on that path (above).
Reboot your machine, does this help.
HTH.

Hi Pappion,

Right click on the Start Button and select Explore.

Navigate to the Startup folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\User_name\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Locate the executable file for the application in question.
Right click on it and drag it to the Startup folder and choose Create
Shortcut here.

The next time the system is booted, the application will automatically start.

Thank you, too.
BTW since I disabled Active X and Active X Scripting in my settings in
IE6+++ et al, most of the time when I click on a URL's link, IE closes, or
freezes. I look at what is processing, and it is always only the URL I have
open. Nothing releases the 'freeze,' even End Task, and waiting up to 5 full
minutes. I don't think anything is very serious, but did I do something when
I placed the Active X thingys on Disable? Prior to that they were Notify but
it was driving my screenreader and me nuts.

Oh gracious...it did not work, and now when I click on the desktop program
icon the message is "ZoomText DLL load failure" So I dragged the shortcut
back to the Program in the directory from which it came...but its still not
functioning, and I'm not sure what i'm typing. Sorry.

Oh gracious... I'm in a mess. dll load missing. Nothing works, and I cannot
see what I'm typing. I can start Dragon but I'd prefer to not do anything. I
did go up to Edit, and did undo. But nothing helped. I've touched nothing
else.

Hi,

I the time was not aware ZoomText has an option to auto start.

Reinstall ZoomText to repair the problem at hand.

Then open ZoomText.
1. On the ZoomText user interface, choose Settings > Preferences >
Program (tab).
2. Check 'Start ZoomText automatically when the system starts'.
3. Click the OK button.

Will do... Ai Squared contacted me so I've re-installed it b/c it has oral
installation instructions. Checking things now...

I'm back! Good gravy, I'm back. I double-checked the v. updates Ai Squared
tech. sent to me (which I had downloaded, after re-installing from the CD),
and it appears the icon on my desktop is the new program. The old one could
not be removed because of the missing dll -- but appears to have been the
ZoomText shortcut on my Desktop, which was a folder. I double-check the
dates of the files in the folder, then moved it to my Recycle Bin for now.

Headed to Add/Remove Programs to 'see' if the new install in replicated
there, or not.

At least it came up strong, and ready, and OneCare checked with me 2X to
approve it. One thing I want to do is to reduce the # of "auto updates" from
programs going out to the Internet. Its risky, IMHO, but even OneCare keeps
me in the 'red' b/c I want to be informed of the updates proposed for
download.

Any corrections...let me know. Thank you in the interim, I'm most grateful.

As far as Windows Update goes, I select "Download updates for me, but let me
choose when to install them". I have not used OneCare so the setting may
differ.

Are there other applications set to update automatically?
Any corrections...let me know. Thank you in the interim, I'm most grateful.

I fully understand. :)
