Purchasing Visual Studio 2005 confusion

Does anyone know when we can actually purchase Visual Studio 2005
Professional or the upgrade and have it shipped immediately?

First Microsoft said that it would be released Nov. 17. When Nov 17th
rolled around, it may have been released, but still couldn't be found for
retail purchase--Amazon, for example, said it would be available on Nov. 28.

Well, today is Nov. 28 and Amazon does indeed say that you can purchase it
for $490--but it also says that it usually ships in 4 to 5 weeks.

At Microsoft you can purchase it for $549, but they say it is on backorder.

So it appears to me that you really cannot purchase it if purchase includes
taking delivery in less than a week.

I don't need any on the extras. I did just purchase a new copy of Win XP Pro
for a computer I'm building, so that would have been free with a
subscription--but not enough to justify the extra cost of a subscription
over just an upgrade to VS 2005 Pro for $490

Now if Microsoft Office Professional 2003 came with the Professional
subscription, I would go for it. But to get office, you need one of the
Premium subscriptions, and that is a lot more money.

I noticed the same thing. I ordered my copy from Amazon last week and
paid for 2-day delivery thinking I'd have it by this Wednesday.

Looks like December 27. Apparently it takes Microsoft 50 days to burn a
CD and throw it on a box:

William,

I've been trying to get an accurate ship date since November. I've
spoken to MS, who told me (on Nov. 8) shipping was Dec. 1st. Every
vendor I've spoken to has said they would have it in a few days. They
are all guessing. Latest I heard from MS was Dec. 7th.

Yes, yes, everyone says "just buy MSDN", but for those of us that don't
want to spend the extra money, this is silly. If this product does not
ship until 2006 it will be ridiculous given it's name.

The more you look into it, the worse it gets.

What makes it even more infuriating for me is that there is absolutely no
reason why a licence cannot be bought and the software downloaded the same
as an MSDN subscription (or any other software for that matter). Especially
given that MS are suppose to be embracing the internet (Yes I know they are
very very slow company these days).

I am having to un-install the Express Edition sand move back to the VS 2005
Beta 2, as the Express editions are a pile of doggy doo:-(, even for use as
stop gap while I get the Pro Version (if it ever ships)

I too do not want to buy an MSDN subscription. I had an MSDN subscription
for a year so have all the software I need for testing purposes already.

Come on MS Embrace the internet for once...

Andrew
