I have Windows 98SE with IE6. Last Wednesday, I somehow got infected
with Pup.exe and numerous other files. (Since it wasn't from an email, I assume
it is called a Trojan.) I used Windows Find to search for all of the new files
over the last day and deleted numerous executable files, such as silent.exe,
over.exe, o.bat etc. Also, I use AOL 9, and it appears that it may have changed
two files named variable and ph, which can't be deleted. I lost my mouse on
Wednesday, and then reinstalled a several days-old registry copy, and the
computer worked fine until, today, which is Sunday. Now I have all the old
files again. Can someone tell me how to get rid of this trojan? Thanks,

Use the Trend Micro system cleaning tool to rid your PC of the trojan.

Finally, install, update and run an anti-virus application.

My daughter had MANY Pup files on her computer. It was pretty easy to clean
things up. And it didn't seem to damage her system.

Just FYI.... Pup creates multiple 64 kb .exe files in your
C:\WINDOWS\System32 directory. All of them have recent dates. And the
company listed in the files properties was totempole. (That is how I found
all the files since NAV didn't. ) KAV also found a win32.???.??? virus
along with it. But I can't remember the name. This may or may not have
been related.

Pest patrol found a twaintec.dll after cleaning up this infection. (Once
again, it may not have been related.) And also a leftover registry key
related to pup. Run the free online scan to be certain. Pest patrol will
not remove anything unless you purchase it. But it still doesn't hurt to
look.
