This is probably a pretty dumb question, but which is preferable:
a. Open local web file in Frontpage, modify, save to local files, and then
publish - local web to remote web. or
b. Open remote WEB in Frontpage, revise site by saving to remote web, and
then publish to local web to create backup of web on local pc.

Hi,

I think you might find that most people use the a. method however either way
is a good way to always have a backup of your web. At one time I only used
the a.method...now however I mostly use .b instead. If your site has any
type of content that is updated directly (databases, guest books, etc.)
opening the live web..editing, saving, and publishing back down to your
local computer...will give you backups of those updated areas as well. One
problem with working and editing live..if you make a mistake and don't catch
it right away..everyone can see it!

Bottom line is whatever way you feel most comfortable!

Hi Jack,

You are very welcome! :-)

Another thing to possibly consider is "publishing times" Depending upon your
ISP and how you connect to the Internet..publishing one way or the other can
be faster or slower.

sounds like the same amount of work - whether you edit the live site then publish
to local machine, or edit on local machine and publish to server, or if you do a
lot of editing, do it 'live' then back up once a day - publish the whole site (or
perhaps changed pages) back to local machine.

I develop on local computer, publish site, and back up the local folder to ZIP
disk every day or so - if you have the time, making an extra copy to CD or
external storage device would be advisable too.

Thank you! I've been wondering the same thing myself!
Bill D. PS: I've been doing it like "a" myself.
