Publishing very slowly

I usually work directly on the web server. I am making a backup of my
website by publishing to my local hard drive. I have a very fast broadband
connection. However, it is publishing verrrrry slowly (2kb/sec). There is
nothing else using the internet connection. What gives?

(I have FP 2003, Windows XP SP2)

It could be a variety of issues.
Firewall issues.
Server issues.
ISP throttling / managing bandwidth
Just to name a few

Just out of curiosity, why are you doing it backwards?

Why aren't you working on your local machine and publishing to the remote
web?

Partly because of all the problems I have had publishing. I don't like to
take the extra time publishing every time when I can work directly on the
server. The only reason I am publishing to a local drive is to make a backup
and to burn a cd of the site for family.

As for external problems, firewall, etc., I don't seem to have any other
apps that slow, and I am a heavy internet user, games, file sharing, etc. It
is only FP that seems to choke.

If you are using Windows XP, disable Index Service may speed up the process.
