Ok I published my web to a CD so that I could move it to another
computer. but when I open it and try to publish it from the CD to the
new computer I get the following error message:

server error: cannot open file D:\newgreenes\_vti_pvt\service.lck for
writing.

I'm assuming that FrontPage needs to write to the CD in order to
publish, but the new computer doesn't have a burner. Can I just drag
the files from the CD into the computer? ( I was always told to publish
my webs no matter what...).

This will be the computer that publishes the site to the server and
makes all future edits, and the person running it is almost completely
computer illiterate, so I need to get everything set up correctly
without problems.

Thanks,

Carly

Hi,

I've experienced this problem before.

When I copied my web to a disk, cd or another computer all the files were
saved as 'read only'. God knows why.

All you have to do is copy your web to the new computer then right click on
each file, select properties and un-check the read only option. I'm sure
there must be a quicker way to do it - but I'm no expert and am barely able
to fumble my way through things.

Do this for every file in the web and then you should be OK. I was.

Good luck,
