Publishing problem

In the last five years of using FP I have not had this problem before.

I have created a website on my desktop and proceeded to publish to the
destination server (something that I have always done of course)

The server requires authentication and I proceed to deliver the information.
The problem is this.

In trying to publish to www.XXXXX.com I am getting an authentication
requirement that says the server www.XXXXX.com at www.YYYYY.com requires a
user name and password

Now XXXXX is the server I want to publish to and YYYYY is a server that is
completely different and in a completely different location to the XXXXX
server.

I cannot find anything in the coding or the set up that is causing this to
happen and need some guidance on this.
It seems there is something in here somewhere as it also tells me I do not
have the proper permissions which I have and with every other site I have
published.

Thank you

Are you using just "Publish" or "File | Publish"?
Publish remembers the last site you published to, while File | Publish
allows you to select the site.

I am using File |Publish Web
The information that is pointing to the destination is accurate

Okay...it seems I have come up with a new problem here...I am now being told
I do not have permission to publish to the website. Since I am the only one
that does publish (and I do have control over the server) how exactly would
I go about making this correction. This is a new circumstance as I have been
publishing successfully to this domain and server for the past 5 years.

You need to check permissions on the server.

Could it be the extensions need to be reinstalled?

Recently I had a similar problem - I published a form, clicked on Submit and
was asked for username and password. Reinstalling the FP extensions fixed
it.

I really appreciate everybody's suggestions. They were all very good. I have
found the problem and it is so obscure (and illustrates one's utter
incompetence) that it might be worthwhile tucking at the back of your mind
in case future individuals tend to do silly things.
The problem was in the .htaccess file! In making haste, at some point, the
incorrect .htaccess file was uploaded and of course it contained the
information for the www.YYYYY.com site and thus created the problem.
The damage has been changed and I can move on.
Sometimes it really is "operator error".
Thanks again for your help/
