Publishing Problem

I have operated a FrontPage 2000 web site from my home for
several years without problem, but recently when I attempt
to publish my website from my Win 2000 , FP2002-extended
server running IIS 5.0 to my backup computer I receive the
following error message:

"The server sent a repsonse which FrontPage could not
parse. If you are trying to connect ro a FrontPage server
check with the server's administrator to make sure the
FrontPage server extensions are installed properly."

The publication proceeds normally for a while, but prior
to full completion of the publication process, "processing
web updates" appears prematurely, and the above error
message appears.

I have searched the Knowlege Base, and there is an article
about firewalls/proxy servers which I don't think applies.
I have published successfully hundreds of times using the
same system I currently have.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to but in...

Jim, that was excellent - as I had a previous problem like
this one!

However, I am now getting these:

Could not find a web server at 'www.pennbrothers.com' on
port 80. Please
check to make sure that the web server name is valid and
your proxy
server settings are set correctly. If you are sure that
everything is
correct, the web server may temporarily be out of service.

Any clues?

When that happens, try closing and then re-starting FP and/or do a re-boot
and see if you can connect.

Also delete any *.web files after failed publishing events, as the web cache file is probably corrupt

is this the usual procedure with FP2000?

is there an option to auto-purge the .web files?

Yes, this should be a normal procedure the you should follow weekly with
FP2000, FP2002 and maybe FP2003.

You can delete the local *.web associated w/ the currently open FP web (but not the remote *.web at the same time) by Using Tolls
Web Settings Advanced - Delete Files

IMHO just make a shortcut to your TEMP folder and Web Cache folder on your desktop and use it after and significant work (or
problems) in FP
