Publishing local to remote

When publishing an error is displayed ' server error cannot open file
'thumbs.db.tmp' for writing,

is this a problem with our remote server rather than frontpage?

Also if you webhosting control panel supports it - repair / recalculate the
FPSE - this should repair the permissions. If they don't ask them to
recalculate them for you. You can remove them and put them back on if you
don't have a lot of FPSE components but usually this is the last step

In addition to what Corey said you can try to remove the thumbgs.db file
from your web. Sometimes this file causes problems when publishing to an FP
Server. The thumbs.db is a file generated by Windows whenever you view a
folder in Thumbnail view. The thumbs.db is a small file that contains
thumbnail images of all the items in the folder. You can see it if you set
your folder options in Windows Explorer to view hidden files. If you delete
this file you have to make sure you don't have the directory in Thumbnail
view and don't open it again in thumbnail view or the thumbs.db file will be
regenerated.

You can also turn off thumbnail caching, which is what creates them

My Computer > Tools > Folder Options .
On the View tab under Advanced settings > Files and Folders check "Do not cache
thumbnails" and then click OK
