Hello everyone!
I have been trying to use the Powerpoint ASF wizard for
the last day or so. Everything works great except the
video. No matter how I adjust the settings the
presentation has squares in it. It looks like when
converting to ASF trash somehow got in to the video. Is
this a known problem? There are only about 6-7 squares
but it makes the presentation useless. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Brian

Since you haven't received a response yet, I'll pop in with my two cents.

The ASF wizard was designed for PPT 97, I believe. It may have been available in PPT 2000 if you upgraded to that from 97. It most definitely wasn't intended for use in PPT 2002/2003.

Anyway, that code is obsolete, and as a guess, it was probably discontinued because, well, basically, it didn't always work -- even in the versions it was designed for. It seems that you're probably running into that very issue.

As for suggestions, Microsoft's John Langhans has posted this information here in the past:
In the meantime you, a couple of free Microsoft downloads for capturing
(recording) a slide show to a video file are:

1) Microsoft Windows Media 9 encoder

and if you are using PowerPoint 2002 or 2003...

2) Microsoft Producer 2003 for PowerPoint (use it's screen capture
capability during a PowerPoint slide show).

Both of these create *.WMV files which are the same as *.ASF files (just a
different file extension).

Your probably exactly right, thanks
