I choosed "save as web page" and "publish" etc. and it works find as long as
I open the html file in the computer but not on the web. From my homepage I
have a link to the folder/html document which will not open. Is anything
wrong with the link?
<A HREF="folder/filename.htm"><img src="filmikon2.jpg" width=198
height=71border="0"></A> Or do I have to make any correction in the html
doc?

Johnny,

<A HREF="folder/filename.htm"><img src="filmikon2.jpg" width=198 height=71border="0"></A>

This, if it worked would, when the image filmikon2.jpg was clicked would tell the browser to open the file called
filename.htm in the folder called folder.

Things I can see that would cause a problem.....

There is no space between 71 and the word border

the filmikon2.jpg must reside in the root folder (i.e. not a sub folder)

the folder called folder must exist and the file called filename.htm must also exist

Things to try...

(1) put the full path in
href=http://www.mywebsite.com/subfolder/filename.htm

(2) put a text link in also
......border="0">Text link</a>

(3) put a space in before the word border

(4) Test it on the web

Thanks a lot. I tried it all. But unfortunately it still not work. I have a
feeling that the target (the real name is "kvalitetshem4.htm") which is
created by the PP program when converting/saving to web files, can´t open.
Clicking on the link I get the error "The page cannot be found". The first
lines in the document looks like this:

<html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml"
xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"
xmlns:p="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:powerpoint"

When PowerPoint publishes HTML, it usually creates a single HTML file and a folder of
supporting files. In your case:

The file is:

KvalitetsHem4-filer.htm

The folder of supporting files is:

\KvalitetsHem4-filer

You need to upload the file and the folder full of supporting files to your web
server. You should link to the file itself, not to any of the files in the
supporting folder.

I think that should solve the problem.

If not, please post a URL where we can have a look, if it's on a public server.

I have made some 20 different experiment with links, uploading to new places
etc. Now I have restored it all to how I begun. I know about the file folder
and the htm file. And the path is leading to the htm file. Still it works
fine in the computor but on the web I can opent the homepage, link to the
place where the htm file is, but the Explorer says that the page cannot be
found despite the right path is shown in the address list. I am confused
about your last reply. You may see my homepage at:
http://w1.404.telia.com/~u40443964/ and you´ll get the error open the link

For one thing, the link is bad because of lower case letters. It should be
http://w1.404.telia.com/~u40443964/bildspel/KvalitetsHem4.htm I believe.
However, it gets badly hung in IE 6 when I try to go to that link.

Nobody's given up; Sonia's given you the answer (or at least one of them) to the
problem. Your web site is probably hosted on a Unix/Linux or similar server. To
these computers, This.htm and THIS.htm and THis.htm are all different files.
UPPER/lower case is important. On a Windows computer, they're all the same.

If I go to

http://w1.404.telia.com/~u40443964/bildspel/KvalitetsHem4.htm

(and wait quite a while) I do eventually see the page. It takes quite a while to
download, perhaps because of the sound. But before you can investigate that, you
need to fix the problem with the file names.

Apologies for the delayed response.
Just back from PowerPoint Live 2004
Had a great time, learned a lot

What I'm saying is that your source says:

<A HREF="http://w1.404.telia.com/~u40443964/bildspel/kvalitetshem4.htm"><img
src="filmikon2.jpg" width=198 height=71 border="0"></A>

However, your file is actually named:

http://w1.404.telia.com/~u40443964/bildspel/KvalitetsHem4.htm

The browser is sensitive to capitalization and does not find kvalitetshem4.htm
because the file name is actually KvalitetsHem4.htm.

Must we give up? I have tried it all. Pls. check again the homepage from
where you can "view source". It works on the computer but not on the web.

Strictly speaking, the browser isn't case sensitive but the file system where the
web server runs is.

Assuming the filenames haven't been changed in the upload, that's why it works
locally (on case-insensitive Windows) but not remotely (Apache web server on
case-sensitive *nix).

I got lazy with the words. It's always more fun to blame something people are
familiar with. It might also be considered politically incorrect to blame an
Apache web server. <G>

<NixonVoice>Blaming Apache is no problem. It's just that it'd be
wrong.</NixonVoice>

It runs on *nixen, Windows, Mac and such.
It's the OS what makes fun and games with filenames.

Apache says "Gimme SoniaColeman.htm" and *nix nixes that if all it's got is
Soniacoleman.htm

In the same situation, same files, Windows shrugs and says "Here, this one'll do"

And it does.

<UnixenVoice>But that's WRONG</UnixenVoice> Hush. It is not.

Thank´s to all of you. These last explanations makes me better undestand how
things work. I saved the PPP again and was consistent with the letters all
the way and now it works. I am very pleased and I have learned a lot. Best
rgds., /Johnny
