Hi,

I recently made a 8 minute long video from clips I made in a game, I have
never had a problem before when I did this in XP. Now I finish the project
and it is fine during playback in the windows movie maker, however when I go
to publish it, only half the video gets published. Around minute 4 the video
stops but the audio continues and I do not get any more video until the end
credits.

All my drivers are up to date, Ive tried resaving several times as
different formats as well. Any help here would be appreciated.

If it were a video filter problem I would not be able to preview it while it
is still in the story line. Like I said, it plays fine and works properly
while in the storyline preview, its just when I publish it half the video
dissapears.

Uncheck all the filters and try to publish.

The only filter in there was AVI Decompressor. I tried unchecking and
publishing, and when I did that I lost all the video, I didnt even get the
first half like I did while it was checked. All the video files I am using
are .avi files. The only thing that played when I unchecked that box was the
titles at the beginning and end and the audio. I rechecked since Half of the
video worked with it checked......

any other suggestions?

Should I download this WIndows Media Encoder?

You could try converting the .avi file to .wmv
with Windows Media Encoder.

There are many types of .avi files...DV-AVI
is the one that is fully supported.

The following free utility will help you identify
the codec you need for your .avi file.

GSpot

I downloaded the Gspot thing,

It tells me that the codec used is FPS1/ and then says that the codec is
installed.
This was taped using fraps so it is a fraps decoder. What should I do now?

How do I convert t he files to WMV? I really dont want to have to re do the
whole thing if there is a work around such as downloading codecs or soemthing
into the movie maker.

Ok I downloaded Windows media encoder and converted a file to .wmv and
recplaced one of the .avi files with that. Im trying this on one of the
files I know was not playing on the published video and now trying to publish
to see if it works.

Ill let you know.

Thank you very much for all your help today!

So you're recording a game in progress? That's a HUGE demand on your
system.

Well that's some NEW info.

Pay special attention to the last paragraph from the fraps site:

http://www.fraps.com/faq.php#videocap

<quote> Why is the AVI movie generated by Fraps so big? How can I reduce
the size?

The filesize is big because there isn't enough time to encode the movie
while the game is running. The movie frames are slightly compressed, but
still require a large amount of disk space due to the high resolutions. Once
you have finished capturing you should convert the saved AVI into one of the
popular compressed movie formats such as mpeg or divx. Recommended programs
for doing this are tmpgenc (Tsunami Mpeg Encoder), and VirtualDub.

Using VirtualDub is quite easy. To create a compressed version of the AVI
follow these steps:

a.. Start VirtualDub
b.. Select File->Open and choose the AVI in the Fraps directory you wish
to compress.
c.. Select Video->Compression and choose the codec you wish to compress
with (usually divx)
d.. Select File->Save As AVI and specify a filename for the new AVI.
If you have Windows XP you can also use Windows Movie Maker to compress the
video files. If you use Windows Movie Maker it's recommended that you keep
your Fraps video files at 800x600 or under." </quote>

So? Are you keeping the files at 800x600 or under?

Converted the file. IT worked. Guess I will have to redo the whole thing :P
thank you very much!!!!!

You don't have to redo the project if you replace the originally used AVI
file with the WMV.... just put it in the same location and with the same
file name, including the avi extension.

Movie Maker only checks to see there's a video file there... it'll use it.

Thanks for your responses. YES my file size im trygin to publish is 640:480

I have a pretty hefty system so its not very demanding at all on my system.
