I have a site I've been updating using FP's publish feature for the last 4
yrs. Now I need to start publishing via ftp because I'll be sharing web
authoring/updating duties w/someone who wants to use DW. My questions are:
1. Can I do this
2. Are there any FP files or folders I should not ftp to the server.
3. Is there anything else I need to know about doing this

TIA for your replys

Using FTP means you need to make sure you are not using FP server
extensions, as it will corrupt them.

If you are using any of the web components that require FP server
extensions, such as hit counter, forms, guestbook, discussion web, etc., you
will not longer be able to use them if you publish ftp.

Thanks Tom. Are there any FP files or folders I should not ftp to the
server...any other tips?

Do not FTP any folder with a name commencing _vti
Do not FTP any file contained in a folder name commencing _vti
Do not FTP postinfo.htm
Do not FTP _vti_inf.html
(these last 2 files may not be present in your local web site).

FrontPage never publishes these files or folders - they are created and
updated by the extensions on the server in an extended web site, and are
not used in a non-extended site.

As Tom said, if you have any pages that need the extensions - do NOT use
FTP.

See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281532/

Using FTP may corrupt the extensions - if this happens (and it will)
then you will not be able to open the remote web site in FrontPage.

I'm not using anything that requires ext (unix server), so it sounds like I
can go forward with this.
Thank you both for the advice!
