Our web sites were created directly on the web server or files were just
placed in the web site directory, we have never published from Front Page.
Would this cause my hit counter, discussion web site, form to database, from
not functioning?

Yes, unless you had the site open directly in FP when you created these functions.

Yes...you have to work from within Frontpage to have any frontpage feature
to work, and your server requires the server extensions.

You can still work "live" on the server, but you need the above to be able
to do this.

I advise you to make a copy on your local computer and in future, work on
the local copy then publish the changes through Frontpage (if you intend
using it that is). - if the server goes down, then you lose your only copy
of the site!
