publish live vs local

I want to be able to open my website, choose edit with front page, make my
changes/additions/deletions, save, minimize my editing page, hit "refresh" on
the website page that is still open, and then voila, see my changes.

However..... while the "edit with front page" function is available, the
page onscreen becomes "default-page"... and ...the publish function is not
available. And when I save my change, I'm asked to save it in "my web
sites".

What do I need to do in order to publish live? This particular website has
always been saved to the office computer, backed up on the office server,
then published to the remote location ... the online website. It's time
consuming.

And.... is there a way to create other users with their own passwords? Can
one limit the areas to which they have access?

Linda

You don't publish live. There is nothing to publish to. You are already
there. When you save the page, it's done.

OK, I guess my questions is really..... why, when I hit the save button, am I
asked for a file name under the directory "my web sites". I'm not doing
"save as". Just clicking the save. Nor do I want to save in "my web sites".

If in the file name: I put http://www.myfilename.ca/ .... it says cannot
find the url.

Perhaps you are not properly opening the web site.

Instead of doing it from the browser, do it from FrontPage itself.

OK. Opened FrontPage. Chose Open Site. Typed http//www.myfilename.ca

Error message: The folder http://etc etc isn't accessible. The folder may
be located in an unavailable location or protected wiht a password or the
filename contains a / or \.

Yes, this website is maintained on a local computer, and when published, a
password is typed in twice before publish process takes place. It's time
consuming.

You need to fix your underlying problem. Study these links:
