I have a user that cannot access Public Folders thru Outlook 2000. The user
has rights to the folder they need to access. When I try to use Outlook to
view the contents as that person the folder is empty, but I can see the
folder at least. If I go thru OWA as that person, they access everything
that the rights assigned gives them. I not sure where to start. Please
help and thanks

Hi Gary,

In Outlook 98 and Outlook 2000, the Owner of a public folder can limit the
ability to view the folder contents to Owners only. To do so, if you are a
public folder Owner:

1. In Outlook, open the folder properties.

2. Click the Administration tab. Under "This folder is available to", click
the Owners Only option button. If you click the "All Users with access
permission" option button, other users will be able to view the folder
contents.

I have look at that setting within a affected folder and it is set to the
"All users with access permission" setting. The user having the issue has
"owner" permissions to the affected folders.

Hi Gary,

I would start by trying to get more information from the customer on this
particular folder and user.

Questions:

- In this public folder, is there only one user that cannot view it's
contents while many other users can view it's contents? If so, the I would
suggest a new Outlook profile for the user in question.

- Did the user in question create the public folder? If not, can this user
create a test public folder and copy contents to it and view those contents?

- Can this user copy items into the public folder

- Is the user in question able to copy, move, delete, create and view items
in all other public folder?

- Has this user tried to log into the network from working user's machine
and test? This will tell you if there is any issue with any third party
software on the user in question machine.

Once we get the answer to heses questions we will know what direction to
move in.
