We are going to be putting in an AD system in the next several months.
I've been searching for a report on the pros/cons of having the domain
using a public domain versus a private domain. Eg, mydomain.org or
mydomain.org.local. The only issue I see, not being an AD expert is having
to manually update public IP address for www.mydomain.org. Anyone have a
FAQ on this subject?

If you have a private address you won't have to update any public addresses,
you would just forward names not with in your domain off to your ISP's DNS
server. As a matter of fact even if you select a public domain name the DNS
services would be handled the same. The biggest issue for you is to avoid
using the same internal name as the external name, such as www.microsoft.com
for internal and www.msn.com for external. Using the same name for both
internal and external can be done (I work in an environment that does such
as this) but you just have to have two dns servers, one for internal and one
for your dmz since you wouldn't want to expose all your internal host names
out in the public sector.
