Weather its official or not both the 64 & X86 versions are on bit
torrent, not fully seeded yet but growing.

You can get a download via torrent it will be a lot faster than
waiting for MS overloaded servers to crank it out for you.

In fact why did MS not seed it in the first place? Far more efficient
way of distributing the public beta and it was bound to end up there
anyway.

Not a good idea.

Go on why not? I get all my Linux Distros from torrents its just
efficient. I am not blindly going to stick it in a running PC it goes
on a DMZ test box first to check it out. I got the legit key from MS
if I want to risk a torrent file then its up to me. Its an alternative
to waiting days for a dl to start.

For real I understand that this brings it out to a lot of "unauthorized
users", but its gonna happen. why not appear to be a great guy to the
faithful ones of us and probably shake some headlines at the same time. If
need be throw some .Net authentication up in the tracker I dont care. It just
kinda sucks that i have to resort to torrenting from the dark side :) But at
least we know its release is going well so far if its beating estimated
(allotted) bandwith.

MS could not even with their resources meet global demand on thier own
servers. Demand is obviously huge and BT is the obvious solution plus
its a totally legit use of bit torrent. We are not downloading the
latest episode of the Sopranos, its a Public Beta. So where is the
problem?

Get the key the legit way then get your copy down any way you can,
nobody is doing anything wrong. In fact taking the load of MS servers
is probably doing them a favour.

Mind you thats not a good idea in itself 8-)

Guys - as long as the MD5 checksum of the file verifies the one on my site -
it's a true genuine ISO.
Option 3 :o) http://www.vistabase.co.uk/welcome.php?getstarted

(oh, thanks to Andre of course)

I have talked about this again and again... MS will probably use torrent too
in the future...

but there are some people in here that have artiosckyrosis in their brain

What i mean is that those people that have already put it on BT its not a
good idea. 1. It is copyrighed material and 2. What's the point? You still
have to get a product key from the MS website.

The point is you could potentially download it faster via bittorrent and
not deal with the slow MS servers.

I totally understand that its not a good idea to pirate the products you
download from MS.. but i dont think it should have to be the case. If
Microsoft Seeded then after about the first hr of activity (if peer activity
is high enough) you can easily get speeds in the MB/s range.
Instead of this
3.0 mbps Fast Cable/DSL 4.5 hours
We could have
3.0 mbps Fast Cable/DSL 35 Minutes

not to mention the lack of strain on the ms servers sure would help out my
speeds on MSN Video!

Plus im totally down with getting my product key from Microsoft then
Clicking Download torrent rather than getting

The beauty of torrents (apart from taking some of the load off MS servers),
is that if the file isn't legit, it doesn't take long to find that out.
Most downloaders won't seed a bad file. Check the tracker (to see if it's a
trusted one), and look for comments. Usually within a couple of hours of a
bad file appearing, it's already been flagged.

Rumors are that Apple is looking at torrent technology to included in
Leopard (10.5). They are reportedly looking at including it as an OS
service and would use it for software update.

Time will tell if this is true, but the idea is compelling

Tom it does not matter if its copywrited material as long as you get
the official CD key from MS, its the same file everyone else is
getting from MS Servers its just BT is much faster, much more
efficient way to dl the file and MS are saving on Bandwidth costs if
people seed it on torrent for them.

MS are actively giving it away as a Beta, its not a pirate version
just because its on BT.
