Try executing it via the "compatibility wizard".

That being said,I would have expected it to work. What are the exact
error messages which indicate to you a "compatibility" problem.

Consider reposting your issue on the newsgroups focused on Publisher.
 
Should work, are you getting errors? Publisher is more demanding on printer drivers
than other applications. Can you start Publisher in safe mode? If you can go to the
manufacturer's web site of your printer and look around for an updated driver.
