This may be a dumb question, but I'm nearing the end of my
rope. I posted a question several weeks ago about corrupt
and disappearing DNS A records for several hosts. I
followed the advice about scavenging (which was to disable
it), and disabled Option 12 and 15 of the DHCP reservation
for each host, so that it would not specifically overwrite
the DNS record that I manually created. I am finding
that, while the problem has lessened, it still exists.
Doublechecked that all servers and zones had scavenging
disabled, they are. However, in checking, I noticed that
the scavenging for the reverse lookup zone was still
enabled (thought I had disabled, but obviously hadn't),
and was set to 2hr no-refresh interval and 8hr refresh
interval...I bumped these up to 7 days, unless I have a
good reason to disable this as well.
So, on to the question...if a PTR record is scavenged,
will it affect the corresponding A record? I thought they
were separate entities altogether (both different records,
and different zones).
I really appreciate all the great help that these forums
provide, they're really a life saver when
support.microsoft.com doesn't have the answer (or I
couldn't find it, anyway).
Best regards,
