Hello everyone, Please can someone tell me wether or not my PSU is a good one?
I have a Vcool 800w psu, the reason why i am asking is i have just bought a HD4870 1gb and although the wattage is more than enough i just want confirmation the psu is a good quality one. I paid about £80.00 for it.

You was robbed, I would say it's only worth £25 ... if, however, it does the job, then ignore my statment. ;)

Welcome to PCR ...

Thank for your honesty, time for a new psu i guess ;p
Next question is, i need a good psu that will power my new HD4870 i hear corsair are a reliable quality make, any suggestions please and what wattage do i need?
Thanks alot...

The wattage you need also depends on what other componants your PC has - how many Hard Drives etc etc.............however the Corsair HX620 is usually more than enough for most systems and is a great PSU.

Hi,

Corsair, OCZ, PC Power & Cooling, Be Quiet, all very PSU, ATI recommend at least 550W for a HD4870, so if you have a highend desktop then 600W + would be best suited.

As Ady says it depends on the rest of your Rig, do you plan to add another 4870 at anypoint? If so ATI recommends a 850W PSU, if not the 620W will be fine, but the Corsair TX 750W is cheaper although not modular.

Thanks for your replies, basically I power one hard drive one dvd combo and only one hd4780 on a 7050m m motherboard with a 6000 plus dual core amd. As I said in my psu I currently use is a vcool 800w seems a shame to bin this as itts only a few months old but if its not any good then I guess an upgrade is needed

Why don't you just try it first?

Run a few games at high res and if you see anomalies then swap out the PSU.

if, however, it does the job, then ignore my statement
I don't have a superdooperpooperbluelited PSU in this system, but I did pay the right price for what I got, £15 ... it works!
