PSU up or down?

I am replacing my PSU and forgot whether the internal fan on the PSU should
vent up or down. Mounting holes line up either way. Thanks

There is very little room above the supply for air to flow. Actually
the ATX fan direction seems a bit stupid.

Mount the power supply such that the internal fan is on the bottom.
It is an inhaler: sucks warm air out of the cabinet, through the p/s
and out the back. The symmetrical mounting holes is something of
a missed opportunity by the manufacturing community.

you'll find in most cases(cases) you won't be able to mount it successfully
but in only one direction, fan down

Nope, you want to move air out of the power
supply and case when there are no case fans.

What type of case? What direction is the airflow through your supply?

The case is large, no brand name but there is an inch above the PSU and
vents on the sides at the top so I thought with the fan facing up that the
air would vent through the top of the tower. Now finding out that the fans
are "inhalers" it would make sense to point the inside fan downwards to suck
the hot air out of the tower.

An inch isn't enough. Point the fan downward.

"> An inch isn't enough. Point the fan downward. What maybe more important is the position of the heatsink in the PSU and
that it's getting the correct cooling so it's components don't overheat. I
now have it pointed downward. Thanks

The fan on the bottom of PS is an intake fan meant to face downward
directly (if possible) over the CPU.
