Hi,

I have a old computer, Pentium 166, with a PSU of 230W,

Can I replace the PSU with a new one ATX 300 W ? is it compatible with my
system ?

thanks

Check the following

1: What does the motherboardconnector look like?
If it is 1 large connector with 2 rows of wires --> ATX
If it are 2 connectors with each 1 row of wires --> AT

2: Check if the powerswitch in front of the pc is connected to the PSU
If not, but connected tot the motherboard --> ATX
If yes and the switch has 2 solid stats --> AT

Succes
Chris

Is your old computer an ATX? If it is, your answer is YES.

The board is :

ftp://www.asus.it/pub/ASUS/mb/sock7/430hx/p55t2p4/p55t2p4-311.pdf

Can you tell me, please, if it is an AT Form Factor ?

It's definitely AT -- look at 6-pin connectors P8 and P9, right next
to one of the SIMM slots (BTW, the black wires on the two connectors
go next to one another). I've seen AT PSUs listed at
www.pricewatch.com, and I think that Directron still has some, but
your best bet may be getting a used one from a local independent
computer shop. 200W should be fine. The only way to use an ATX PSU
with that mobo is with an ATX-to-AT adapter cable, which may cost as
much as a good used AT PSU.

Thanks a lot, I didn't know the existence of ATX-to-AT conversion cables,
there is one at :

http://www.directron.com/atx2at.html

Are these cables available somehere in europe ? I don't want to buy in USA
because of shipping costs

thanks again
