I backed up my .pst folder for Outlook 2002 so I could wipe my HD. Now that I have reinstalled Outlook and point it to the .pst file it says "outlook.pst is not a personal folders file.

You know that it is... I know that it is... but, the software doesn't seem to know it

Any ideas?

Make sure the file isn't marked read-only. If it's on a CD, move it to your
hard drive and remove the read-only attribute.

also if that doesnt work instead of importing the mail try just opening the
file as an Outlook Data file

File- Open - Outlook Data File.

Try running the Inbox Repair Tool against it to see if it finds any errors.
Search your drive for a file called scanpst.exe and run it.

I have had the exact same problem and have tired the same solutions without luck - any other idea

What is the BEST way to back up you outlook psts to use them on a different machine?/

Hi there

The easyest way to do it is to copy it on the cd and thats all.

Also, make sure that once copied back to the new machine the properties of a

..pst file doesn't say READ ONLY and if it does remove the tick

Good luck,

Lorna

I simply copy the .pst to removable media (USB drive) and "sneakernet" it to
the new machine. Never had a problem

(well...there was that time I accidentally opened my mother's pst and found
nekkid pix of my dad, but that's a whole other story!)
