PST file stops responding

My PST file has reached 0.9 GB, when I try to move a
message into the personal folders Outlook hangs, no error
message is displayed, but "not responding" appears in the
title bar. I can save messages to the hard drive with no
trouble. Once I am in the personal folders, just browsing,
Outlook 2002 hangs when I try to return to the inbox of
the Exchange server. Backing up the PST file seems to
still work fine, I just can't move any new messages into
the personal folders without Outlook locking up.
I'm running Windows XP Pro with all the latest Service
Packs and patches, and Office is also running all the
Service Packs and hotfixes.

Run scanpst.exe against the file and see if it comes up with anything. Also
check your available space on the drive where the pst-file is stored.

I ran the file, no change, it still locks up. It reported
no errors, and there's a few gig left on the drive, so
drive space doesn't seem to be the problem. Still open to
suggestions. Thanks Roady.

Personally, I'd run scanpst against a _copy_ of the file.

This is part of the process already; it creates a back-up before attempting
to repair.

Does this also happen when you create a new pst-file and move the message to
that file?
Clearing the Deleted Items folder on both your Exchange mailbox and pst-file
could help as well.
