I recently archived my outlook 2000 to a pst file on another hard drive on my computer. I then formatted and reinstalled all my software. When I try to restore my outlook pst file an error message tells me access denied, permission not granted. The file is where I backed up to but outlook won't allow a restore. Please help.

Make sure you have read/write NTFS permissions to the file and also if the
file isn't marked "Read Ony".

Thanks for the reply. I made sure read/write permissions are granted and also read only is unchecked but still no luck. I did reinstall all my software including outlook 2000 on reformatted drive but I should still be able to open it. Is there some sort of software that will will assist with this problem?

The pst-file could be damaged. Try running scanpst.exe against it and see if
it comes up with anything.

I'm not sure how to do that, I'm a bit of a novice. Could you explain? Thanks for your help

By default scanpst.exe is located in;
D:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\<local ID>

No, I still think this is a permissions issue which is also indicated by
scanpst.exe. Try copying the pst-file to a location that you know have full
permissions on like the Destop and rerun the scanpst.exe utility.

Roady, When I try to move the file it says file is in use by another program and access is denied for moving it. I closed outlook and even tried moving in safe mode but nothing. Not sure if there is another way to move, I'm not to up on dos or I would try booting to dos from a diskette, don't remember the proceedure or if that would even work. Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. Any other suggestions

Do you have synchronisation/Palm/Anti-Spam software running or any other
program that could connect to Outlook? You are indeed correct that Outlook
has to be closed. You can also kill the outlook.exe process manually by
using the Task Manager which you can find when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL. When
you kill the process you should be able to acces it.
