.pst file missing!!?!

When I open outlook, it tells me the file "outlook.pst" is missing and all my
folders & emails are gone!!
I tried using the system's recovery feature and restoring the computer to
before the problem started, but it tells me the recovery can't complete.
Is there a way to search recently deleted files (gone from the recycle bin)
& see if the file was accidentally deleted? I did a hard drive search for
*.pst files, and got no returns.
I'm using Windows ME on a hewlett-packard machine.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Not without a third-party undelete tool.

Does Windows ME have hidden files and folders? Seems to me, the default
location for PSTs on that platform is C:\Windows\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Its a home machine, so I have all the files un-hidden; the directory you
list is correct: the file is just completely missing!
Can you recommend a third-party un-delete tool?
Thanks,
Darcie
