Been fielding questions here off & on for some time.
To further explain my point:
I've done this each and every time I've re-formatted and reinstalled my
system (about every 6 months since I have a machine that is for testing
purposes only). I've done it with fresh installs of Outlook (which is what
the original post indicated was the situation).
If (with a fresh OL install), you replace the standard "Outlook.pst" with a
backup of a previous one, the only problem (if you could call it that) is
that OL will prompt you to rebuild your shortcut icons in the Outlook Bar.
I'm not disputing that MS may recommend against it, I'm simply stating that
in my experience doing it (probably 15 - 20 times) it will not be an issue.

Field some more questions in this group. You'll soon discover how lucky
you've been. Overwriting PST's is just a bad idea.

It's still not recommended. You've been lucky so far. Sooner or later
you'll
end up with a corrupt PST or missing settings. This method is not
supported.

Assuming that the new "outlook.pst" is empty and is therefore not
needed,
he
should be able to just replace that one with his old one. I've done
this
many times without incident.
Correct on the PST file part, but do NOT just copy it over to
the
same
folder on the new drive. That will overwrite the current PST
which
is
an
good way to corrupt the file or settings. Instead copy it somewhere
else
and
configure the new installation to use it instead of its current PST.
Method
depends on the Outlook version, which was not posted.

Do a file search on the logical drive you copied your c drive over
to
for
the file Outlook.pst. Take that file and put it into the same
folder
on
your c drive.
My system crashed. I had copied my "C" drive to another logical
drive
and
when I reinstalled Windows XP all my Outlook data was, of course,
not
there
in new Outlook.
Where can I find it and how do I copy it over?
Thanks.
