Was there a freeware of PSP 5 ? Not warez, but freeware. A friend of mine
had it but somehow didn't burn it to disc correctly and lost registry files
and didn't know til she reformatted her computer and lost the PSP freeware.
If I am mistaken , let me know. Perhaps it was off a magazine?

Probably. It was on the UK magazine "PC Plus" (about a year ago IIRC).
Haven't seen it for download but someone else might come up with a link.

Paint Shop Pro 4.15 came out on the surface of a magazine. It was the first
version to deal with layering. On the other hand, the trade-off was that
PSP 4.14
was the last version to deal with .GIF files. 4.15 did not. I stuck with
4.14 since
I have no use for layering. Together with some exotic free plug-ins found
here
and there, PSP 4.14 does pretty much all that I desire.

That was PhotoPlus 5 which is still available at their website along
with a quite amazing collection of formerly payware, now freeware
apps.
http://www.pcplus.co.uk/downloads/default.asp?

I would note that the site can be as slow as molasses sometimes, but
the download speeds are quite good.

Just note that once you register with them in order to obtain the
activation code, you start getting spam from them. They do seem to
honor removal requests though.

Thaks for the heads up John. It's been some time since I have
downloaded from that site and registration wasn't required then.

There was one some time back in Dec 02 PC Format. I just picked up
another in the current October edition of a PC User mag. In both cases,
you have to register to get an unlock code by e-mail:

"Use this code when prompted during installation of Paint Shop Pro 5
from the October 2003 PC User cover CD. Note that you will need this
code to install your free version of Paint Shop Pro 5, and for any
subsequent reinstallations."

My copy of 5.01 handles gifs just fine.

Australian PC User had a full edition of version 5.01 on their cover CD's
in the October-again I have not seen any downloads of that.

There was also a version that came free on a CD with a modem I bought.
I don't recall the version, but I *think* it was 5.

Correct-version 5.5 of Serif's Photoplus is freeware

In fact, I've downloaded and installed Photoplus ver. 6 from here:

http://www.sandylee.net/computers/photoplus.html

and it seems to me that the version was registerware. Registerware
isn't freeware, but is often recommended in this group.

Not possible. West of Memphis they barbeque the wrong animal. ;)
