Hi

I get a lot of these pseudo-Microsoft patch/update/error emails with
attachments. I already blocked about 30 addresses and created a rule for
certain subjects. But it doesn't help. What can I do?

Disconnect yourself from the Internet is the only sure fire solution.
If that is not an option, call your ISP and have them install an AV
program on their mail server and get them to strip all infected files
before they make it to your mailbox.
Other than that, you'll have to live with them

Easy. Don't accept messages that are not mailed directly to you or
don't accept anything greater than 50KB. Both methods will work.

Create a rule for any attachments (Content-Type: multipart) or HTML.
That'll get all dangerous and/or annoying mail.

That solution seems to work fairly well for this case. Noone should email
you without putting your email address in the To: list of the email header.

Stop posting to Usenet with your email address in the clear. Swen
harvests these, and as long as you post it, Swen will harvest it and
send you more.

Create a rule in Outlook Express that says:

"Where the To or CC line does not contain <your e-mail address> and
Where the message has an attachment Delete it from server"

HTH.

thanks, for the suggestions, but if I block emails not written personally to
me, I also miss emails from my university which have group format.

1) Do the e-mail from you university have attachments? The "junk mail"
rule I suggested will only trigger on messages that are not addressed to
you and that have attachments.

2) You could create a rule (or rules) that would handle the messages
from you university and place it above the "junk mail" in the filter
list so that it triggers first.

3) You could modify the suggested rule so that move incoming messages to
a junk mail folder that you can sort through at your leisure.
