hi

im looking to replace one of my harrdrives its a 320 western digital

the choice is either to get a new IDE drive and DIRECTLY replace the harrdrive
OR
get an external harrdrive and make a copy of the exsisting drive

so in short im looking to backup all my data.

I just came across this one:
its at the top

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Samsung_IDE.html

its 400gb for £105
and its my FAV company SAMSUNG! they do the quiet stuff!!

so what do u all think?

should i get a new internal harddrive and make my 320gb the backup
or
get an external one and make that my backup?

obviously each method has advantages/disadvantages over each!

ie if i went for an external ill need 400gb at least it could cost more than an ide 400gb

also with option one i feel that directly replacing the 320gb with 400 would give me more capacity in the long run, as right now i have approx 40gb left.

id like to know your thoughts thanks

DONT (and i say this through personal experience) get an external hard drive. They are just too dodgy, not very reliable and can blow up in your face

Im not saying it will happen to you, but stick with internal hard drives:thumb::D

Dodgy?

Blow up in ya face?

Why the hell woudl they do that m8?

I have one, so do plenty of my friends. Never ever have I heard about one doing that!

Well to be fair, i got it from a second hand shop... which i thourghly regret now. You also gotta be quite careful with the things I accidently dropped mine a few times and it messed up the drive.

As i said chances are it wont happen to psd99, if he were to buy it, i was just giving my opinion on them :D

Never buy a second hand hard drive!

You got no SATA ports mate?

If you want to expand why not buy a SATA card to fit into a PCI slot?

Hiya m8 good morning

Ebuyer selling big SATA's

1. What configuration are your SATA ports?

2. Do you have SATA II?

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/sear...0&intCatID=4&strOrderDir=descending&intPage=2

or

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/productlister.aspx?GroupID=1048

3. No biiig Sammys tho mate sorry

4.someone please tell me how to do that HTTP: shortcut text thingy please?

thanks for links, am specifically looking for a samsung u ever had one of them be4?
i really RECCOMEND THEM!
so quiet can get the best nights sleep ever!

1. I dont quite understand this question. Ill try guess the pci card has one sata, one ata, 2 usb2.0 2 firewire ports on it.

2. i dont have sata 2 thaths for sure its an old car
in this case i dont see the point in getting a sata 2 drive.

3. samsung is my heart at the moment,

4. ive always wanted to know how to do that too1!!

I dont recall having any sammys m8 although I have on numurous occasions people mention how reliable and quiet they are especially the Spinpoints.

I have mainly Seagates in mine and a couple of Maxtors I think. I do need another drive but unfortuantely I need other stuff first lol.

Dont you just hate prioritisation

yer it sucks sometimes
so what do u wanta get then?

must admit dont mind seagate
but really hate maxtor

most of my drives are samsung and seagate
although i have two WD's

I dont really like WD either!

its all abt the S and S drives........

cool cool

yer i got a tagan 480w
was quite expensive but mind u i was desp at the time!

two companies i would NOT SUGGEST

1. QTECH damn these people burnt my motherboard STAY AWAY
2. JEANTECH almost burned my components blew up on me 3 times in total

i chucked the jeantech in the bin because it was dangerous
and cheekily i sold the qtech on ebay!!!!
