I have an MS multimedia keyboard on Windows 2000. I'm
using it as an external keyboard to my HP NC6000 laptop.
Since the laptop has no PS2 port, I had to get a converter
to change it to USB. They main keyboard functions
properly but none of the multimedia keys (any of the extra
keys on top of the keyboard) seem to work. I know the
keyboard works just fine. If I plug it into a PC with a
PS2 port everything works. I'm thinking it has something
to do with the PS2 to USB conversion. I've tried 3
different adapters as well. I've also installed (and
reinstalled) the Intellitype 5.0 software.

So now I have a nice multimedia keyboard with no
multimedia functionality.

The keyboard says it works under PS2 or USB, but I know it
didn't come with an adapter.

Anyone have any ideas?

This may have more to do with software than hardware. You probably need to
load the keyboard driver and software (I believe they call it IntelliType)
for your Microsoft keyboard. In order for the multimedia keys to function
properly, you have a program running in the background that executed the
shortcut for each key as it is pressed.

As I mentioned, I have installed the Intellitype 5.0
software. I've also removed it and reinstalled it.

Odd. Both my optical mice and current keyboard came with
adapters--but they were USB to PS2 adapters. Each of these hardware
items is USB w/o adapter. (and one of the mice is from MS)

Sorry, I was sleeping when I read that part :)
