Does anyone know of a source for the PS2 pass-through power cables used for
external 2.5" USB disk drives? I have an external USB 2.0 enclosure with a
40GB 2.5" drive. The enclosure came with a power cable, but I'd like to get
one or two additional cables. I haven't found anyone who sells JUST the
power cables. Can anybody suggest a source?

Thanks,
Eric

This might not be a goot idea. Most mainboards have fuses on
the PS2 power lines. Mine has a 1A fuse on it. If you attach
several HDDs this way, yoiu might blow the fuse and make your
mainboard partially unusable.

This risk is propably also the reason you cannot buy this
type of adapter.

Arno,

I think you misunderstood me. I don't want to connect more than one disk
to a computer. I want to put the PS2 power cables on three computers so I
can move the external disk between them easily, without having to move
the power cable from computer to computer.

No, although it might have sounded like it. I did not make
any assumption about your intended use.

Which is o.k.. But if a vendor sold these adapters, some people
would misuse them and then complain about broken mainboards.

Therefore I suspect that nobody is willing to sell such a
product. However you can buy the connectors or you can break
open a mouse/keyboard extension cable to make your own adapter.

Doesnt explain why that external USB2 drive uses that approach.

Corse you did. You assumed that it would be used in a way
that would increase the power demand from the PS2 connector.

Tad unlikely given that using the wrong USB header cable can
blow the traces right off the motherboard. They sell those anyway.

Its much more likely that its just not seen
as a product that there is much demand for.

Quite a few turn up using google and <PS2 power cable OR cables -console>

http://www.cmsproducts.com/detail.aspx?ID=233
looks like what you want.

Rod,

Thanks for the link. That's what I'm looking for, but I had hoped to find
it for less than $10.00, since I want a few of them. By the way, I did
try Google, but got swamped in an avalanche of "PlayStation 2" (PS2)
listings!

Thanks again,
Eric

Those are easily dropped by adding -console -playstation to the google string.
