I have the original vers 1 of Photoshop Elements and am thinking of
upgrading. I guess I won't be able to go from vers 1 to 5 and will have to
buy the full package. I have been trying to find out if this programme
still comes with a manual?

Also what does OEM version mean, I notice this programme for sale on Ebay, a
lot cheaper than retail price. Is OEM cutdown and not all the features
available?

TIA

about the manual:
there is hardly any software
mfg that will include a manual.
most of the instructions are now
kept on the server and downloaded
as pdf's. then if you want to reproduce
the pages on paper it will be your expense.

about oem:
oem's are softwares provided
with a computer as a bundled
package. your best bet is to
keep away from oems because
of certain limitations. further,
i would not send any money for
a photoshop oem via ebay. off
hand i don't think that a photoshop
oem exists. but i could be mistaken.

about upgrading:
don't know why you think you
can't go from version 1 to 5.

Many thanks for the advice, I was a bit dubious about Ebay software.

Regarding upgrading I just thought there may be just so much difference in
the two versions.

Once again thank you.

yeh, there are some major
differences between the 2 versions.

i decided that the newest version
was way more than i thought useful.

i beleive there is a free trial
download from adobe.com.

check it out. but if your a bit like
me, you will find that the new version
is overkill and life is easier for you
and the pc with version 1.

if you download the trial, be sure to install
it in a totally different folder rather than
overwrite your current folder for ver1.

then be sure to make a manual system
restore point before installing ver5.

both tips above will keep ver 5 from disrupting
your pc, in the event you agree with my
assessment.

ps: do you know there are a couple
of websites that have free addins for
version 1 that has extra filters....

Thanks for that info. Yes I am currently testing out the vers. 5 trial.
Unfortunately didn't think until too late about a manual restore, but guess
I could go back further if needs be. Should have done a defrag before also
I guess. Luckily both versions seem to be running O.K. separately.

I think the organize, create catalogues section might prove useful to me,
always having trouble finding photos from way back.

Thanks for useful advice.
