PS/2 to USB

I have been wanting to use a separate keyboard and mouse with my
laptop. I recently came across my set from a replaced desktop and
thought maybe I could use that, but then I discovered the
incompatibility. Is it worth just getting adapters, or are there
potential problems that make spending the extra money for a new
keyboard and mouse a better choice.

Although USB to PS/2 adapters are commonplace, they don't actually convert
the USB interface to a PS/2 interface. The mouse or keyboard is able to
detect which interface it is connected to and communicate accordingly.

Apparently not all adapters are alike. The Belkin F5U119vE1 works for me.

The Belkin ones happen to have the "electronics" which will translate
the USB signals to PS/2 correctly. The first reply were based on the
"cheap" USB to PS/2 "convertor" plugs.

Strangely, I knew as soon as I sent it, that someone was bound to know of
one that does convert. However, *most* don't.
