ps/2 KVM to USB port PC?

I have four desktop systems that all share the same
display/keyboard/mouse via a startech SV411K KVM.
On my new machine it has NO ps/2 ports and the supplied keyboard/mouse
are USB only.

I've purchased a pair of PS/2 female to USB male to plug the KVM
cables into the USB ports. But the machine complains of unrecognized
usb device and fails. Obviously there is no mouse/kbd action.

My question: has anyone successfully accomplished this type of
connection before? I've already done USB to ps/2 with adapters with
no problems but now this is the other way.

Ideas/suggestions please? Thanks
 
Yes, the same way you're doing it (if I'm reading this correctly) using
a 4-port D-Link KVM and a generic 2xPS/2 tp 1 USB adapter. Once windows
booted up I had to wait 5 minutes for it to recognise the devices and
let me log in. I also had to change some BIOS USB options. If the BIOS
recognises it, then windows should too (after a few minutes).

He's right, you should check BIOS settings that enables USB mouse, but
some devices don't like using the adapters.
 
I do this often, and with a variety of machines. Some of those PS/2 to
USB adapters are meant to work with specifically designed keyboard and
mice, so perhaps there's a mismatch there. I'm using something like this:

It could also be, as others have suggested, a problem with your BIOS
settings.

Well, I reviewed the BIOS. Nothing there concerning this. So, I took
Grinder's advice and ordered the adapter cable from monoprice. We'll
see what happens when this arrives.
