I'm taling about Group Policty -> User Configuration -> Windows Settings ->
Internet Explorer Maintenance -> Connection -> Proxy Settings

When I set proxy settings from here (for my current user name -
Administrator) then go to a site, Internet Explorer does not uses proxy
settings I just specify. What's up?

When I set my proxy settings from Internet Options in Control Panel
everything works. Naturally, why do we have these Proxy Settings option in
Group Policty?

First: It's absolutely not a good idea to use an adminstrative account
for GPO testing. It is quite easy to block yourself from the network
with a single click.
I would highly recommend to use different OUs for administrative and
"common" users. And never, never use Admin for testing but some
additional accounts (may have administrative access). Keep a backdoor
open all the time.

We're using GPOs to apply proxy settings in our domain. Works fine and
gives us the flexibility we need.

GPOs are applied at system startup or user login. Take a look into the
refresh policy. Changed GPOs will not be applied before the refresh
interval takes place (in case the user remains logged in).

Use GPORESULT (resource kit) to check if a GPO will be applied or not.

Ok, after security policy was applied it works but not the way I want it to.
Proxy settings are getting set for LAN adapter but not for my dial-up
connection. Is this normal? Is this how it suppose to work?

Another question. You said to test group policy on some other account, not
admin. Does it makes any difference whether you edit Computer Configuration
or User Configuration (en Group Policy -> Local Computer Policy)???

Alex

can we setup proxy by group policy: for example

Server: 192.168.1.210
Port: 8080
checked bypass proxy

If you have anyway to do that, please help me! thanks alot!

I have a similar problem to that. In my case, the proxy does work under the group of users I apply the GPO to. The problem is the Exception list are not working. Despite putting a list of sites in the Exception box and also checked the "Do not use proxy server for the local address" option, everytime when the user run IE browser, it always goes through the proxy server. I did reboot the machine several times and force the GPO to update and still the same problem.

Any help is much appreciated.
