How do I install and configure a proxy server on 2000
Server? Is it a part of the operating system or is it a
separate software package?

There is no built-in proxy server facility in Windows 2000 (or 2003 for that
matter). Microsoft produces a product called ISA Server (Internet Security
and Acceleration Server) and I believe there is a new version due fairly
soon.

There are third party and freeware proxy servers available, depending on
your requirements. A quick search with Google will find them.

Oli

Hi Dennis,

Microsoft has discontinued Proxy Server and recommends ISA Server. Before
Proxy Server was discontinued you could install it seperately.

Please see the following:

Proxy 2.0

If you have the legacy Proxy Server 2.0 CD the following might be helpful:

As the others have said, it is not. You can however use NAT in Remote Access if your
goal is to share a internet connection with the lan. --- Steve
