Proxy Server Download Trouble

We are having trouble with updating a software program we
use from a small software vendor because of our proxy
server. It basically gives us an error saying it can't
find the file it needs for updating. However, when we
remove the proxy server it works fine, if we have another
way of accessing the internet, like via a dial-up
connection. So what we are trying to do is get this
update to work with the proxy server on. We tried the
exception feature under Advanced, by entering the
server's ip address where the update comes from, but that
did not help. So the proxy server is blocking this
update file, but we don't know why. Any ideas out there
to overcome this? Thanks,

Eric

Which proxy-server software?
Are you in a domain or workgroup?
Are you doing this on a workstation?

Marina

This is just using Windows Internet options(Connections
Tab>LAN Settings in most version of Windows on the
workstations. So yes we are doing this on a workstation.
I am unsure of the proxy-server software these networks
are using. Two of the networks we have tired this on are
in a domain. However, I can recreate the error and
problem on my laptop as a standalone using a dial-up
connection to a local ISP, so no domain or workgroup. To
recreate all I have to do is put a check mark in the
proxy server area under Internet options on the LAN
settings of the Connections tab. In this senario I can
still connect to the internet because I have dial-up
connect outside of any network. However, having that
proxy server checked under LAN settings it blocks the
update. When I do this the program will try to connect
to the web server for the update for about 40 seconds and
then disconnect because there not a true public proxy
server address there. However, when I put in a known
pingable proxy server address under the proxy server
address tab, it gives me an error right way saying it
cannot find the update file. Hope this helps. Thanks,

Eric

Have you contacted the vendor of this software you're trying to update?
Which software is it?

Marina

Marina,

I have contacted the vendor they have known about the
problem for several months. Most of their customers do
not use proxy servers so 95% of the time this is not a
problem. This software is from a very small non-business
related niche market so I highly doubt you would know who
it was if I gave you the name. I would prefer not to.
Thanks for your help. I am going to try the software
Pedro recommmended on my own laptop. Guessing our IT
department may not let us implement on our corporate
network though. Thanks,

Eric

Thanks Pedro, I will try that software on my own laptop
to see if that works and let you know. Then if it does
may consider asking our IT department. Thanks,

Eric
