Hi

have a small problem. am running webserver with IIS 4 and
proxy 2 on NT server

Internally have client running XP Pro.

Have set up proxy client (as the domain administrator).

When I start IE I get out to the internet immediately (DSL
connection)

When I log on a s another user it takes at least one
minute to get out.

Have tried both - let IE automatically detect settings and
set up the proxy server details.

Would appreciate some ideas on this one

Cheers

Hi (me again)

I have the exactly the same problem when connecting to the
exchange server (running on the same NT server as
IIS/proxy server)

Well there could be a million things wrong and you haven't given enough
information to narrow it down to 50,000 or less. So I'll have to guess.....

I'm only going to deal with the first issue. The Exchange issue may take
care of itself after. Besides, your Exchange issue may be that you are
simply trying to access it by FQDN instead of Netbios Machine name which is
how you *should* access it.

1. On the Proxy Server the LAT must be correct. It should contain *only*
the address range of your internal network.

2. The WSP Client. It's irrelevant. It is only reqired to run Winsock Based
Applications that require the services of the Winsock Proxy Service of
Proxy2. It has no relationship to browsers and their "proxy settings" or the
Web Proxy Service of Proxy2. However the browser will try to use the WSP
Client if it is installed and you run the browser without any proxy settings
at all (or if the proxy settings fail).

3. The browser must have the "proxy settings" *explicitly* stated. You
cannot use the "auto" settings without using tons of preparation with DNS or
DHCP and all the WPAD stuff that ties in with the browser's "auto" settings.
The browser's proxy settings must be entered for *every* user. The browser
settings are *not* global and only apply to the one user who is logged in at
the time you enter them. The exception would be with Win9x machines where
users all share the same profile.

Thanks Phil

Will try your suggestions. Couple of points for
clarification

1. If I don't run the WSP client I cannot get out to the
internet at all. I keep getting asked to log in

2. Why is it that there are no problems when logged in as
the administrator

You won't unless you put the proxy settings in the browser. Then you need to
properly configure the permissions in the Web Proxy Permissions. Each of
Proxy2's "services" has its own independent permissions and they do not
"cross-over" to the other "services".
2. Why is it that there are no problems when logged in as
the administrator

The Administrator has permission and the other don't. That all I can think
of there. There really isn't very much to the thing, it's a fairly simple
device compared to the newer ISA.
