My laptop's hard disk died, so I've spent the last week rebuilding it on a
new disk from the original software CDs. This laptop is a Windows 2000
client workstation on my Small Business Server v4.5 LAN. I've applied the
latest Win2K compatible updates, service packs, and recommended updates
identified by the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer.
After a few uses of Windows Explorer, Windows Explorer will no longer open.
Other applications still work, including IE 6.0, but Windows Explorer itself
will not open. When I then try to shutdown, restart, or logoff the current
user, I get a pop-up window stating that "Proxy Desktop - not responding"
and I'm prompted to wait or end program. This problem always happens.
I did not have this problem before the rebuild. I have searched the
Microsoft Knowledgebase, but I didn't find any clues.
Any assistance would be appreciated. Please respond to both the newsgroup
and my email (e-mail address removed). Thank you.
