Windows Vista continually pops up the following message:

Your proxy server requires a username and password. Contact your network
administrator for the correct settings and supply your proxy username and
password in the Connection section of Settings.

Proxy Server: 0.0.0.0:0
Username:
Password:

This is the only Vista machine on the network. Our network does not use a
proxy server. All of the XP, and 2003 based machines still work great. The
Vista machine worked fine for a few weeks but one morning I came in to find
the above message on the screen and I can't get it to go away. I can ping
any machine on the network but I can't connect to them via remote desktop and
I have no internet connectivity. Please help.

I get this problem on my XP machine sometimes also. Open Internet Explorer
and go to the option menu and click the connections tab. Then go to the LAN
settings and make sure the "Use a proxy server..." is not checked. Also, make
sure you don't have it selected to automatically detect network settings.
There may be something on the network causing it to think there is a proxy.
With this not selected, it won't check.
